Frequently Asked Questions
What is my role as the sponsor of
a child? You are linking your life with a child thru
prayer and your finances. By helping with their education you are giving
them an opportunity for a future. Over time your investment has the
potential to extend, not only to this child, but to a family, a community and very possibly a nation.
How does the sponsorship program
work? You may call or e-mail
and request a sponsorship form. Once the form is received in our home office with your first check a framed picture
and brief bio is sent to you of your child. Flatwood Ministries
forwards the money once a month to the national coordinator of the
country where your child lives. The money is exchanged for local currency
and used by the coordinator to pay fees and purchase designated items for the child.
What specific benefits will my
sponsored child receive? The child receives the school fee
paid, a uniform, supplies and books and in some villages food for the day.
Am I the only person helping my
sponsored child? Yes, we assign one sponsor per child.
How long should my commitment
last? We ask for a one year commitment. After that time the sponsor may continue their support but
are not obligated to do so.
What happens if I must discontinue
my support? We realize that life circumstances change from time to time. The sponsorship is a
faithcommitment that is made as the Lord provides. If at all possible the commitment should be kept because if
funds for your child are discontinued it would probably mean that they would be out of school until another sponsor
could be found.
May I write or send gifts to my
sponsored child? It is difficult to communicate with a child from Africa because of the language
and distance. From time to time we mail a package to our national coordinator. The package can contain cards and
letters to the children. We notify you in advance when that will happen and you can send cards for that package. We
do not send gifts unless we can send something for all children in a school. We have found it more practical to
send extra money for a special occasion for the coordinator to purchase treats, suitable for their country, for all
the children, i.e, Christmas and end of school celebrations.
How much of my gift goes directly
to the child? 100% of the child sponsorship money goes directly to the field of service for the
support of the child. Administrative costs are covered thru designated offerings and fundraising events for that
purpose.
Can I sponsor more than one
child? Yes, you can sponsor as many as the Lord provides funds for you to do so. Sponsors are
needed and gratefully appreciated.
What happens if my sponsored child
moves away or is not longer available? In that case we would give you another child from the same
area and send you the information and appropriate photos. Our sponsorship is based on being able to keep up with
the children/families in order to provide them with their monthly support.
Do you plan to have children to
sponsor in other countries? Yes, we plan to expand as the Lord provides workers in the developing
nations who will administer the program.
